Christopher Ohge, President

I am an English and Philosophy major planning to graduate in the spring of 2008. My areas of interest are: Romanticism, Modernism, philosophical criticism, aesthetics, the history of ideas, and the history of science. Right now I work for Dr. Steven Olsen-Smith with Melville’s Marginalia Online as an editorial intern, and I work as a copy editor for The Arbiter. Other than burying myself in an office—reading and writing—I am also a jazz drummer, clarinet player, and an amateur guitarist/Bob Dylan wannabe. After graduation, I hope to attend graduate school to extend my studies.

In addition to my work with the EMA, I am a Philosophy major with heavy interest in the philosophy of art, particularly the philosophy of photography. I work as a photographer on campus. In my spare time I like to read and write (I've completed a novel!), bake and take photographs, mostly still-lifes. My favorite works of literature are generally 19th century Russians and 20th century Britons. The novel is my favorite form. I like to write literary fiction and creative non-fiction personal narrative essays.

The decision to be involved with the EMA came in my last year as an undergraduate, feeling an over- whelming sense of school pride. BSU and I have been seeing each other on and off for the last 14 years and with everything that this school has given to me, I felt a desire to give back—to  be involved with others who love words and writing and reading as much as I do.
I am an English major with a Writing emphasis and will graduate in the Spring of 2008.  Interested in incorporating psychology and counseling into my writing, I plan to study those fields in a Masters program at an undecided university. Other interests include my ongoing love affair with Virginia Woolf, writing creative non-fiction, and playing Scrabble.
